INDUSTRY NEWS ENMU-Roswell to offer shorter program The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at ENMU-Roswell has revised its training curriculum. Students can now complete the requirements for a certificate to completion in only 14.5 months. The revised cur- riculum was recently approved by the FAA. Students will receive advanced composite repair train- ing, Boeing 727 familiarization training, and Cessna approved composite training certification. Students also benefit from hands- on training on operational aircraft and local internship opportunities. Visit www.roswell.enmu.edu for more information. Unmanned aircraft course enrollment up Interest in Kansas State University Salina’s Introduction to Unmanned Aircraft Systems is soaring, with enrollment up 200 percent since fall 2010. The unmanned aerial systems program currently offers a certificate, univer- sity officials anticipate a bachelor’s degree wil be available when the next semester begins. Free to high school students Founded in 1973 and oper- ated by the Los Angeles Unified School District’s North Valley Occupational Center, the Aircraft Mechanic School is one of the only programs of its kind open to high school students. It offers a combination of classroom lectures 34 August 2011 in 45 individual subject areas and shop-oriented projects. Facilities include a high-bay hangar in which students work on actual propel- ler aircraft, jets, and helicopters. Approximately 150to 200 students are enrolled each year in the two- year program, which is free to high school students and costs about $500 total for older students includ- ing summer session. Both day and night classes are available. The Van Nuys Airport Association awards two $500 scholarships in memory of Milton Widelitz, one of VNAA’s original founders and also the founder of Aerolease Associates. NTSB offers investigative courses The National Transportation Safety Board is offering two inves- tigative courses and one transporta- tion disaster response course over the next two months just outside Washington, D.C. The five-day Rotorcraft Accident Investigation course (Aug. 22-26) provides partici- pants with a comprehensive over- view of the procedures and meth- ods used and the skills required with all aspects of rotorcraft accident investigation.See more at go.usa.gov/Bkn. The three-day Transportation Disaster Response – Mass Aircraft Maintenance Technology • www.AMTonline.com • www.AMTSociety.org Fatality Incidents for Medicolegal Professionals course (Aug. 30 - Sept. 1) examines the principles of man- aging the medicolegal response to transportation-related mass fatality incidents. Areas that will be addressed include managing search and recovery operations, the antemortem and postmortem data collection process, quality assur- ance, and interacting with family members’ regarding medicolegal issues. The two-week Aircraft Accident Investigation course (Sept. 12-23) provides participants with a com- prehensive overview of the pro- cedures and methods used and the skills required to investigate an aircraft accident. Global training offerings AFI KLM E&M; has launched its global training offering, combining resources from AFI KLM E&M; centers in Paris and Amsterdam with those of its subsidiaries and partners Regional (Clermont-Ferrand), Brit Air (ICARE Flight Training Centre, Morlaix), KLM UK Engineering (Technical College, Norwich), and AFMA (Apprentices Training Centre, Paris). The AFI KLM E&M; training offering extends from basic maintenance training in accordance with EASA Part 66/147 (Aircraft Maintenance License categories A, B1 and B2) to continuous training for regional fleets (Embraer, BAE 146, Fokker, ATR, Bombardier), narrow- and wide-bodies including latest- generation aircraft (A380, Boeing 777).
